Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

About Products

A “mixed lot” is a batch of products, all with the same black graphic image and/or text, where each individual item has its own unique decorative background. Our goal is for every delivery to surprise and delight you and/or your customers! Our “mixed lots” contain an assortment of bright and soft colors, floral and non-floral prints – with a few flashy and basic solids tossed in for good measure. A few of our favorites materials are hand-marbled paper from Italy, silk-screened paper from Japan, Indian paper with glitter and metallic accents, vintage embossed foil, iridescent paper and holographic film.

Good things take time, as they say! At Via Delia, we don’t just crank out buttons. We meticulously create each item, seeing it as a tiny work of art. Crafting our buttons begins well before and extends beyond assembling components in a press. We don’t mess around when it comes to our materials, either. We use extraordinary, artist-grade papers to make our products. We scour the Internet, as well as shops in the US and abroad to maintain a dazzling, constantly-changing inventory for our Buttonistas to use. Via Delia buttons are highly valued as little, collectible folk-art treasures, and coveted as jewelry – a personal reflection of the individual button wearer’s style. Our customers appreciate that what we offer is different, unique and special – and are gladly willing to pay more than they would for everyday, easily-replaceable buttons.

The Graphic Artist Guild union bug is on our company sticker, which is on the back of every button and fridge magnet. For aesthetic reasons, our company stickers are on the packaging, rather than on the product itself, for the following items: pocket mirrors, key chains and holiday ornaments.

At this time, all our products are circular. We make buttons and fridge magnets in the following sizes: 1.25″, 1.5″, 2.25″ and 3″. Our key chains are 1.5″. Our holiday ornaments are 1.5″ and 2.25″. And our pocket mirrors are 3″.

We make buttons (also known as pin-back buttons, badges or pins), refrigerator magnets, keychains, holiday ornaments and pocket mirrors.

“Traditional” buttons are made by creating a color image on a computer. It is then duplicated, printed, cut, and crimped with button components on a press. With this technique, every button is exactly the same – and production is both quick and rather mind-numbing.

What can we say? It looks good! We like the aesthetic of the black border framing the black text and graphics. It is a signature element of Via Delia products.

Each item is individually packaged in a clear Poly bag. Our company information is printed on the back side of the outer rim of our products. Our buttons and fridge magnets also have a company sticker (with the Graphic Artist Guild union bug) on the back.

Rather than producing buttons that are all exactly alike, Via Delia patterned buttons are one-of-a-kind little treasures. Our process starts with collecting and managing a wide spectrum of decorative paper from around the world. Via Delia buttons are made using only black text and graphics. We carefully combine each image with it’s own beautiful, artsy background. Our constantly rotating materials include hand-marbled paper from Italy, silk-screened paper from Japan, Indian paper with glitter and metallic accents, vintage embossed foil, iridescent paper and holographic film. Our talented Buttonistas carefully hand-compose each button with an eye for design and alignment, while minding the supreme importance of legibility. Each button is individually packaged in a clear Poly bag.

Yes, upon request. “Traditional” style buttons are not our primary focus. However, we are happy to make buttons for our customers with their supplied artwork.

Both. Via Delia has two branches. One is focused on making custom, branded products for customers to re-sell at their gift shop, aquarium, museum, zoo, adventure park, event, etc. The other side of our business is focused on designing, producing and selling our own line of Democratic Party and progressive cause buttons, that we sell on our Buy Campaign Buttons page. Many of our campaign button customers buy Via Delia products in bulk for fundraising purposes at their local Democratic Party headquarters, OFA office, or progressive cause center. Visit our Raves page to read what people are saying about raising funds, generating street-level enthusiasm, and jump starting meaningful conversations with our products!

A “mixed lot” is a batch of products, all with the same black graphic image and/or text, where each individual item has its own unique decorative background. We avoid using duplicates in our “mixed lots.” However, the bigger the order, the increased likelihood that you will have some patterns repeated. If we repeat prints, they will be our more popular papers. Note that two items made from the same print, when placed side by side, will still not be exactly the same, as they will have been made from different parts of the sheet.

Yes. For custom orders, there is no charge to provide general direction on your “mixed lot” prints, such as: “lots of floral prints” or “lots of non-floral prints.” You can also provide general direction on colors, such as, “lots of purple,” “avoid pink,” etc. Note: there is a charge to specifically choose your exact backgrounds.

Our minimum quantity on custom orders is 100 items per design. We are happy to use that design to make an assortment of different products (buttons and fridge magnets in various sizes, key chains, etc.) in order to reach the minimum quantity.

Line drawings of faces – whether human or animal – generally do not look good when placed over assorted prints. However, if you have a silhouette instead of a line drawing, it should look great. Feel free to submit a .jpg of your logo or artwork via the Custom Order page to request a free review. We will let you know if we think your artwork is not suitable for our technique.

Yes. There is a one-time artwork set-up fee of $25 per design for custom orders. If we judge your artwork to be essentially production-ready, we may waive this fee. There is no charge to modify your final design into different sizes, in order to make an assortment of products.

We work in Adobe Illustrator and prefer that you upload your logo or artwork file in that format (.ai or .eps file). You can also submit a high-resolution, print quality .jpg file.

Once your custom artwork is ready for production, our turnaround time varies depending on how many jobs are already in the queue. Please let us know if you have a deadline and ask for our current turnaround time before placing your order.

No. Please visit our Custom Order page to see examples of some logos that have worked well with our technique. Logos need to be 100% black & White (no grey, no other colors). Bold text and silhouette images produce the best results. Feel free to submit a .jpg of your black & white logo or artwork via our Custom Order page to request a free review. We will be honest if we think your artwork is not suitable for placement over assorted, colorful print backgrounds.

Yes. We charge $30/hr to hand select backgrounds, based upon your color and/or pattern specifications. Background choices are limited to our current inventory of decorative materials, which is weighted toward floral/leaf prints, and non-floral prints, like stripes, polka dots, geometric shapes, and abstract prints. We also regularly have fun, flashy solids, including embossed silver or gold foil and iridescent and pearlescent colors. Email us if you are interested in having us work with you to select specific background patterns/colors.
